Sharon Stone’s iconic short hair has been a staple for the star for decades, yet she somehow manages to wow us with every red-carpet appearance, including at the 2021 Met Gala. The event’s theme was “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” and celebrity hairstylist Sebastian Scolarici says he wanted her hair to match the vibe of her gown.
“Sharon is wearing a glamorous Jackie O-inspired beaded Thom Browne gown, so we wanted her hair to also be old Hollywood—but with a twist,” says Scolarici. “We created lots of 60s-inspired volume with a curling iron and traditional roller set, then added some 80s punk by keeping her hair very tight on the sides.”
To get the look, Scolarici used Better Not Younger’s Wake Up Call Volumizing Shampoo ($27) and Conditioner ($27), towel-dried the star’s hair and applied Better Not Younger Lift Me Up Hair Thickener ($34) to give it volume: “When hair is short and fine, you need to spray a thickening product everywhere—not just at the roots—to increase the hair’s density. This product does that beautifully,” explains the stylist.
He then rough-dried her hair and used a small-barreled curling iron to create tight curls: “When hair is short, you need to make very tight curls to achieve long-lasting volume and texture. If the curl is too big, the hair will just fall flat when you brush.”
Lastly, to set the hair, he placed small Velcro rollers—he says you can use a traditional roller set too, but only use the smaller rollers. As a final step, Scolarici brushed and shaped Stone’s do after removing the rollers, smoothed down the sides and set it all in place with hairspray.
