Ever wonder what the most popular skin-care brand is in the world? The one dominating online searches and social media shares, and becoming the focal point of many conversations among girlfriends over a glass (or two, three) of wine? Well, now we’ve got the scoop. A new study conducted by skin-care blog Skincare Hero analyzed the search data of 72 leading skin-care brands from more than 41 countries to determine which one is top-of-mind more than any other, and the results are in.
Deciem’s The Ordinary tops the charts as the world’s most searched-for brand in skin care (accurate as of May 2021), ranking highest in 41 countries, including the United States, Canada, France, the UK, and Australia. Dove clocks in at number two on the list, followed by Bioderma, CeraVe, Estée Lauder and L’Oréal Paris.
One of the reasons Jake Agnew, founder of Skincare Hero, isn’t surprised by the study results is The Ordinary’s TikTok fame since the app became a social media phenomenon in 2019. “The Ordinary has had incredible success on TikTok,” he says. “It all started when their AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution went viral and became a great way to introduce the brand to others.” It also doesn’t hurt that the average product in the brand’s portfolio of nearly 60 skin-care products is $10, making it affordable to a wide range of socio-economic classes, especially during the pitfall of the pandemic. “The Ordinary has exploded in popularity across the past few years and is now officially North America’s hottest skin-care brand,” adds Agnew, noting that the brand’s celebrity and influencer fans such as Kim Kardashian and Holly Willoughby don’t hurt its status either.
Other big-name brands included in the study were Augustinus Bader, Biologique Recherche, Drunk Elephant, Neutrogena, Olay, SkinCeuticals, SkinMedica, Sunday Riley, and Vichy. To see the full list and more about the data analysis, click here.
