The Skin-Care Lesson Hailey Bieber Says She’s Had to ‘Learn the Hard Way’

Any day Hailey Bieber gives us a glimpse into her beauty routine is a good one, which makes today one for the books. On her new YouTube channel, the supermodel shared her night-time skin-care routine and didn’t skip a beat. Here’s what we learned.

A fan of the double-cleanse method, Bieber begins with an oil cleanser to dissolve makeup before cleansing the skin. “I started doing this during quarantine and it’s honestly made the biggest difference in my skin,” she says, massaging MARA Beauty Algae Enzyme Cleansing Oil ($58) into her skin.

After rinsing, it’s time for a second cleanse. “I like cleansers that don’t get super, super foamy—I prefer something that’s a milkier, hydrating, nourishing wash,” she says, reaching for HoliFrog Tashmoo Water Lily Nourishing Milky Wash ($38). “I never like for my skin to feel dry and stripped and tight after I wash it.”

Bieber then gently pats a cloth onto her eyes and neck, but makes sure to keep skin damp as she applies a layer of Biba Los Angeles Plant Stem Cell Peptide Serum ($85). “I love peptides—I think it’s one of the best things you can put on your skin,” she says. “I’m going to massage it into my skin while my face is still a little bit damp so that the product soaks into the skin a little bit better and dries into my skin.”

When it comes to hydrators, Bieber says she typically goes for a “more intense moisturizer” at night, “something a bit thicker to sink it to my skin.” Tonight’s choice: Biba Los Angeles Cream Barrier ($95).

“If I’m not getting into bed looking like a glazed donut, then I’m not doing the right thing,” she says of her threshold for the right amount of skin care. “Find yourself a moisturizer that helps you look like a glazed donut at the end of the day,” she jokes. After moisturizer, Bieber treats her sensitive-to-dry skin with Furtuna Skin Due Alberi Biphase Moisturizing Oil ($125), “just for the sake of looking like a glazed donut.”

To treat some breakouts on her cheeks and chin—the star says she finds her skin gets a bit more sensitive and prone to breakouts when she has a busier work schedule—she applies “the tiniest bit” of a prescription spot treatment on affected areas. “I find that [prescription creams] can be really, really harsh on the skin if it’s overdone or used too much. I’ve had to learn that the hard way multiple times, so just [use] a little dab.”

Another staple in her breakout-busting tool kit: Starface Hydro-Stars ($15). “They totally help heal a pimple faster, so whenever I’m breaking out I always sleep with one of these on. And they look cute!”

Last but not least: eye cream. “I’m usually really, really diligent about eye cream because the eyes are a really sensitive area and I’m trying to prevent getting crow’s feet, so I really try not to ever skip it,” she says, gently applying bareMinerals Ageless Phyto-Retinol Eye Cream ($46). “One thing, ladies and gentlemen, not to forget: I put eye cream on my lids, too, because those get saggy as you age.”

The final step the supermodel says she can’t go to bed without?: Good old Aquaphor Healing Ointment ($8), which she uses as a lip balm to curb chapped lips and also as a spot treatment for any chapped areas.
