‘Chappelle’s Show’ Makes a Return to Netflix Amid Renewed Contract With ViacomCBS

Now we can watch Chappelle’s Show without guilt! According to Variety, the comedy series is back streaming on Netflix after Dave Chappelle had stated that his deal was renegotiated to compensate him, unlike his previous, original deal.

Back in November, Netflix had taken the popular sketch comedy program, Chappelle’s Show, off of the streaming service in adherence to the comedian’s personal request. The popular comedian had explained the contract negotiations he went through with Comedy Central and how he felt pressured to sign the contract at that point in his life.

“I signed the contract and I signed the contract the way a 28-year-old expectant father that’s broke signs a contract, I was desperate, I needed a way out,” Chappelle said at a show of his at the time.

Chappelle had alleged that Comedy Central, which is owned by ViacomCBS, was allowed to license the series without his agreement and that the agreement also prevented him from receiving royalties.

“I asked you to stop watching the show and thank God almighty for you, you did,” Chappelle told the audience in the clip below. “You made that show worthless because, without your eyes, it’s nothing. And you stopped watching it. They called me and I got my name back and I got my license back and I got my show back and they paid me millions of dollars.”

“This is a very important moment,” Chappelle continued. “I want to thank Ted Sarandos at Netflix, a CEO with the courage to take my show off its platform [at] financial detriment to his company, just because I asked him. And I want to thank Chris McCarthy of CBS Viacom. This guy’s younger than me. And like most people younger than me has an interest in making the past right, and did something that was very courageous. And finally, after all these years, I can finally say that Comedy Central, it’s been a pleasure doing business with you.”
