Marshall Mathers, who is also known as Eminem, targeted President Donald Trump in a lengthy rap verse at the 2017 BET Hip Hop Awards Show that was so lethal that the secret service “interviewed” him as a possible threat to the president. But, according to BET, Eminem has nothing but love for President Barack Obama after the former president revealed that Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” had inspired him while he was on the presidential trail.
The song is an Academy Award-winning single that he recorded for his autobiographical movie, 8 Mile.
In an Instagram post, the former president said:
“When I needed some inspiration on the presidential campaign, I often turned to music,” Obama said in the clip. “It was rap that got my head in the right place. Two songs, especially: Jay-Z’s “My 1st Song” and Eminem’s “Lose Yourself.” Both are about defying the odds and putting it all on the line.”
The former president then started to recite the opening lines to the song, “Look, if you had one shot or one opportunity to seize everything you ever wanted in one moment, would you capture it, or just let it slip?”
It was reported that Eminem saw the Instagram post and then, from his account, reposted the clip and added the praying hands’ emoji on.
Earlier this year, President-Elect Joe Biden, while campaigning in Michigan, also chose to use the song, “Lose Yourself” as an election theme during his presidential campaign.
Last week, former U.S. President Barack Obama accepted the PEN America’s Voice of Influence Award. Obama was being recognized for his writings that have traversed political, social, and ideological bounds and framed a self-reflective humanism that has marked his influence on public life.
