Jack Daniels Honors Telecom Entrepreneur Freddie Figgers

Jack Daniels is celebrating innovative entrepreneurs for Black History Month. This week, the whiskey brand unveiled its “New Legacies, Making It Count” digital campaign, featuring innovative figures across different fields for February. One of those people is Freddie Figgers, the founder of the country’s first Black-owned telecom company, according to Figgers.com.

The Florida-based entrepreneur owns Figgers Communications, offering wireless, international calling solutions, home phone, and mobile broadband. He is also known for his philanthropy, giving back to the local community, and providing scholarships for high school seniors entering college.

“I want to leave a legacy that will impact children like me. I want to leave a legacy that makes a difference in all children’s lives, including those in the foster care system. I want to give children opportunities from different circumstances and show other Black boys and girls that they can do what I’ve done and more. Just because you have struggled doesn’t mean that you cannot succeed,” said Figgers to Jack Daniels in accepting his award.

“I have been in tough situations and have risen above them with support. All kids need that support, and I intend to provide it when and where I can. My mentor was an old man who lacked education but had wisdom. For every problem I had, he had a life story to help me get through the situation. He was the smartest man I knew. That person was my father, Nathan Figgers. Finally, I want everyone who meets me to be changed because they see what is possible.”
