Joe Biden Plans Quick Action On Four Crises In First 10 Days As President

President-elect Joe Biden is planning an early blitz of executive actions to reverse some of the policies implemented by outgoing President Donald Trump.

The former vice president will address the coronavirus pandemic, the economic fallout, climate change, and a national reckoning over racial equity.

“In his first 10 days in office, President-elect Biden will take decisive action to address these four crises, prevent other urgent and irreversible harms, and restore America’s place in the world,” Biden Chief of Staff Ron Klain wrote in a memo, according to Bloomberg. “President-elect Biden will take action — not just to reverse the gravest damages of the Trump administration — but also to start moving our country forward.”

According to Klain, Biden has about a dozen executive actions on Inauguration Day, most of which are related to the coronavirus pandemic. The actions include extensions on student loan forbearance and a moratorium on evictions and foreclosures. Biden will also launch his 100 day masking challenge, which will impose new mask mandates requiring masks on federal property and for interstate transportation.

The 10 days of action will also address Trump’s travel ban, safely reopening schools and businesses and economic relief measures planned for later this month. Other actions Biden is expected to take in his first week will address criminal justice, climate, science and health care. Biden will also reverse many of Trump’s immigration policies, release his pathway for immigrants to become U.S. citizens and set up a process to reunite migrant children with the parents and caregivers the Trump administration separated.

According to the New York Times, the majority of the actions will be executive orders, presidential memoranda, and directives to Cabinet agencies.

Other actions that are planned for Biden’s first 100 days will include his $1.9 trillion coronavirus stimulus package, a $15 national minimum wage and violence against women.

Biden is set to officially become the U.S. President at noon EST on Jan 20, officially ending Trump’s term. One that will be remembered for controversy, shuffling cabinet members and the first modern attempts to overthrow the U.S. Government.
