“I believe that children that come from different cultures deserve a chance to work in the industry and I would like people that look like me to be able to represent me too in the industry,” the actress and producer told The Hollywood Reporter.
According to its website, the She Ready Internship Program “connects transition-age foster youth with transformative experiences in the media, arts and entertainment industries. The program is supported by Tiffany Haddish’s She Ready Foundation and Ready To Succeed, a Career Accelerator for foster youth, who will provide training, mentorship and ongoing support.”
In order to apply, the person has to be between the ages of 18 and 25 and is a current or former foster youth. He or she would have to be attending a community or a 4-year college in California and legally authorized to work in the United States.
The Girls Trip star shared the news on her Instagram account:
“I am so excited about this program @shereadyfoundation is doing. Thank You @Hollywoodreporter for sharing. Please go to SheReadyFoundation.org for more information. #sheready“
Haddish, through her She Ready Foundation, feels that “every child that is removed from their parents deserves to have a suitcase, a safe place to lay their head, and platform to follow their dreams.”
The program has particular resonance to Haddish, who was placed in foster care at 12 years old.
“You’re dropped in these strangers’ houses, you don’t know these people, these people don’t know you, you don’t know if they’re gonna hurt you, if they’re gonna be kind, you don’t have a clue what’s going on,” she told David Letterman last year.
