Fishermen Cast Aspersions on Supreme’s Latest Collaboration

Supreme x South2 West8. Supreme.

Supreme’s upcoming crossover with South2 West8, a Japanese fly fishing-inspired technical streetwear label, has rubbed some fans of the sport the wrong way, Inputmag reports.

The streetwear giant’s collaboration with the Nepenthes-owned brand includes jackets, pants, vests, and fleeces, as well as a fishing rod used for the traditional Japanese fly fishing technique, Tankara.

“It’s a cultural and marketing grab that seems incredibly disingenuous,” fisherman and designer Stefan Ayon told the platform. Meanwhile, users on Reddit’s fly fishing forum joked that the collaboration’s co-branded Japanese-style fishing rod would not be used to catch a single fish, or even come in contact with water.
