The WSJ did an interesting piece covering Ryan’s World (and the kid’s entertainment space on YouTube at large).
The 9 year old Ryan Kaji (AKA Ryan’s World) has a $500 million retail empire, had a balloon the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and is now coming to Roblox.
While the scale of Ryan’s business is an outlier (not every creator has a toy line, branded toothbrush and toothpaste, and video games). Creators are generating multiple revenue streams and monetizing their communities directly – becoming their own brands vs relying on advertisers.
Today there are hundreds of platforms and companies looking to partner with creators to help them monetize. Roblox is just one of the latest (and will certainly not be the last).
With no sign of influencers becoming any less important there’s still plenty of room for growth.
