According to NBC News, meal delivery company Daily Harvest has recalled its French Lentil + Leek Crumbles meal after a slew of customers complained about gastrointestinal issues and hospitalizations.
On Sunday, the brand posted a recall statement, saying, “We’ve received customer reports of French Lentil + Leek Crumbles causing gastrointestinal issues. We took immediate steps to address what we heard from customers, reaching out to every person who received French Lentil + Leek Crumbles, instructing them to dispose of the product and not eat it. We simultaneously launched an investigation with internal and external experts throughout our supply chain and in accordance with regulatory procedures. We will share more information as soon as it’s available.”
In a recent video on TikTok, content creator and digital creative director at Cosmopolitan, Abigail Silverman, shared her experience with the Daily Harvest meal. “About a month ago I received a PR package from Daily Harvest…The following day, I started having extreme stomach and gastro pain and went to the hospital in the middle of the night. When I was in the ER, they couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me. I had elevated liver levels and there was some bacteria in my urine—they thought I had a UTI, they gave me antibiotics for five days and sent me home. After the five days, the pain came back even worse and I had a 101.8 fever…They literally couldn’t figure it out but I still had extremely elevated liver levels. This was last month, and I still haven’t drank, I’m seeing a liver specialist this week because we need to make sure everything is okay.” Silverman also adds that there is now an investigation, initiated by the brand, to get to the bottom of the foodborne illness complaints.
NBC also reported that there are dozens of other complaints similar to Silverman’s on the Daily Harvest Reddit page and in Instagram comments on the Daily Harvest account. Although the brand is currently investigating this problem, users want an answer.
