Review: Dr. Jart+ Cicapair Enzyme Cleansing Foam Helps Tame My Perpetual Redness

Having rosacea can be a real bitch sometimes. I’m perpetually puffy. My whole face flushes beet-red if I so much as talk too fast (and I always talk too fast). And, worst of all to me, it’s near impossible to enjoy blush without looking a little too pantomime. That said, I like to use as many anti-inflammatory products as possible in my skin-care routine. The products that have always pulled through for me are, no shocker, from the Dr. Jart+ Cicapair line, which includes serums, masks, mists, creams — and now, its latest addition, cleanser.

The second I heard Cicapair Tiger Grass Enzyme Foam Cleanser had become a thing, I knew I needed it… and I was correct on that front. Like Dr. Jart’s other Cicapair products, this cleanser relies on the healing powers of cica (formally Centella asiatica, otherwise known as tiger grass, gotu kola, or Indian Pennywort), a plant that’s been used in Chinese medicine for centuries (so you know it works). Cosmetic chemist Perry Romanowski previously confirmed to Allure that cica is packed with antioxidants and, therefore, can provide soothing, firming, and reparative effects.

Dr. Jart+ Cicapair Enzyme Foam Cleanser

This Cicapair cleanser gets extra points for being free of artificial coloring and fragrance, making it a dream for sensitive skin like mine. One use of this cleanser showed me just how much of a dream, actually — it’s not often a cleanser gives me visible results, but this one does (especially when followed up with my other cica-based favorites). I’ve started reaching for this one exclusively on days I know I’m going to put on makeup because it gives me such a leg up when it comes to covering all my very red areas… well, that’s my whole face.

If I’m wearing waterproof makeup, especially mascara, I’ll start my skin-care routine with an oil or balm cleanser to take care of the bulk of it. Then, a dime-sized dollop of this face wash takes care of the remnants. With just a little bit of water (I dip my hands in running water then tap my face) this cleanser goes to work, lathering itself into a creamy and soapy texture that spreads really smoothly. After a minute or two of slathering it around then rinsing off, my skin feels clean but not squeaky feeling, which tells me that this cleanser leaves my skin’s naturally occurring oils at just the right level so I don’t dry out. I usually follow that up with Ole Henriksen Glow2Oh Dark Spot Toner, Beekman 1802 Milk Drops, the Cicapair Gel Cream, and a sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher.

If you’re in the market for a new cleanser, have super-rosy skin or sensitive skin, or are just a Dr. Jart+ fan, I have a feeling this will become a permanent fixture on your bathroom shelf. It definitely has become one on mine.

Dr. Jart+ Cicapair Tiger Grass Enzyme Foam Cleanser is $25 and available now on and other Dr. Jart+ retailers.
