The 2 Hair Products Behind Jennifer Coolidge’s Big Volume

Jennifer Coolidge stunned with a retro bombshell look as she accepted her SAG Award for her work in The White Lotus last night. The focal point of the look was her voluminous hair paired perfectly with a thick black headband. Celebrity hairstylist Sami Knight is behind the Brigitte Bardot-esque look. “I really wanted Jen to be the ultimate bombshell today. This look is all about big volume and soft waves,” she says.

Sami began by prepping Jennifer’s hair with Living Proof Full Thickening Mousse ($30). She applied it directly to the hairbrush and brushed it through her hair for even distribution. She then sprayed each section with Living Proof Flex Hairspray ($30) for heat protection and hold. Then Sami dried the hair on medium heat with a round brush, accentuating volume in the process.

“Next, I took a 1.5” curling iron, pulling 2” sections, and curled around the barrel. I curled all the hair from the top of her ears down towards her face, and all of the hair above this away from her face,” says Sami. “Doing this is flattering, as it gives a voluminous kick to the shape,” she explains. Once curled, Sami used a tail comb to tease the hair at the crown as big as possible. She notes that “It’s important that the hair can stand on its end if you want it to withstand a brush out.”

Then, using a brush, Sami smoothed the top layers shaping as she went to get the desired shape. She followed that with Dry Volume and Texture Spray to promote even more volume. “We added a black headband at the front of the hair for a touch of that 60s Bardot vibe,” says Sami. If you’re trying to recreate the look, Sami says you could use “a ribbon or big barrette, whatever you like!”
