The Most Popular Hairstyle of 2021 Is A Major Throwback

According to Cosmetify’s 2021 Hair Report, released today, we’re craving some major—and nostalgic—changes in the hair department.

Per the report, the five most popular hairstyles of 2021, based on search volume, are “The Mullet,” “Waves,” “Wings,” “Curtains” and “Extensions,” respectively. Banking more than 15.5 million searches in the past year—a 142-percent increase from the previous year—the mullet is officially making a comeback, albeit a polarizing one.

As for styles with the biggest search increase, “Curtain Bang,” “The New Pixie,” “Layered Locks,” “Modern Mullet,” and “Middle Parting” take the top five slots. Ringing in at number-one, there’s been a huge increase in searches for curtain bangs—a whopping 11,051,000 in a single year—showing an increase of 1,016 percent since last year.

Looking for products to style your new cut? The report also reveals the hottest hair-care brands of the moment. Among them: Olaplex, Dyson Hair, Wahl, Revlon and Redken. During the past year alone, front-runner Olaplex saw a whopping 73-percent increase in search volume. (If you’re looking for a hair-quenching mask, be sure to check out their latest launch here.)
