Switching up your signature scent in spring is a no-brainer. (We also highly recommend swapping your perfume in summer, too.) After all, who wants to smell like tobacco and patchouli once the weather warms up? But this season, in an effort to streamline our morning routines, we’re opting to ditch perfume during the week in favor of best-smelling body washes.
Whether you fancy florals or prefer to smell a little more delectable (think sugar and lemon), there’s a scented body wash for you. And the aroma lingers long after you’ve dried off. Plus, you don’t have to sacrifice gentle cleansing agents or hydration helpers to smell fantastic. Our favorite aromatic body washes all promise smooth, soft and nourished skin.
If you’re worried the aromas may come across as cloying, don’t be. While these fragrant formulas definitely aren’t shrinking violets, they’re far from oppressive. To you or those around you.
Prices can vary wildly. While these cleansers cost more than your drugstore favorite, they also eliminate the need to apply perfume after toweling off. So if you add that into the equation, they’re actually quite a steal.
Here are the best-smelling body washes.
Jo Malone London Wild Bluebell Body & Hand Wash, $46 at Jo Malone London
We absolutely love Jo Malone’s colognes. So it’s not surprising that the brand’s body washes are also stellar. Here, there’s the sweetness of dewy bluebells along with lily of the valley and a twist of persimmon. And it really cleans and conditions thanks to gentle meadow foam seed.
Nécessaire The Body Wash in Eucalyptus, $25 at Sephora
The brand’s body wash relies on mild plant-derived surfactants to gently cleanse without stripping and boasts niacinamide to support your skin’s surface. Which makes it perfect for sensitive folks. Its eucalyptus and sandalwood scent serves as an instant pick-me-up.
Sachajuan Fresh Lavender Body Wash, $43 at Revolve
This body wash actually stimulates collagen production, reduces the appearance of wrinkles and calms irritated skin. But it’s the aroma of fresh lavender plus notes of vanilla, musk and tonka bean that keeps us coming back for more.
Heales Apothecary Body Wash in Australian Rosewood Leaf, $20.80 at Heales Apothecary
We love a good thick body wash and this one certainly fits the bill. (It’s so thick you can even shave with it.) The scent is grounded in rose with green, botanical middle notes and a sweet citrus finish. You’ll want to keep sniffing yourself all day long.
Byredo Rose of No Man’s Land Body Wash, $50 at Bloomingdale’s
The brand basically took its popular perfume and turned it into a body wash. Boasting top notes of pink pepper and Turkish rose petals over a papyrus and white amber base, Byredo’s scented body wash is truly luxurious. You can use it solo to smell great all season long or team it with the original scent for a more layered aroma.
Sol de Janeiro Brazilian 4 Play Moisturizing Shower Cream-Gel, $26 at Sephora
If you love the brand’s Brazilian Bum Bum Cream, you’ll be equally smitten with its shower cream-gel combo. The lathering body wash nourishes and gently cleanses skin with its mix of cupuaçu butter, coconut oil and açaí. The trademark pistachio-caramel fragrance will hang around all day long and it can even double as shaving cream.
L’Occitane Cleansing and Softening Shower Oil With Almond Oil, $27 at Sephora
Looking for something subtler? Try L’Occitane’s almond-scented shower oil. The oil transforms into a milky lotion once it comes in contact with water for the gentlest of cleanses.
Molton Brown Delicious Rhubarb & Rose Bath & Shower Gel, $32 at Bluemercury
Molton Brown’s fruity cocktail is called delicious for a reason: rhubarb leaf and rose are given a twist of grapefruit with delectable results. Plus, it’ll leave your skin clean and soft.
Chanel Coco Mademoiselle Foaming Shower Gel, $60 at Chanel
Chanel’s sexy scent always appears on the list of the best perfumes. It really comes as no surprise since its blend of orange, grasse jasmine and May rose with notes of patchouli and vetiver is pretty alluring. And the brand’s moisturizing and cleansing gel boasts that same signature scent guaranteed to linger on your skin hours after you step out of the shower.
Fresh’s lemony gel has notes of lychee extract and ginger for a refreshing shower experience. The foaming formula gently cleanses with help from shea butter, mango seed oil and vitamins C and E. Plus, it contains pure brown sugar, often a go-to to tackle skin irritation.
Native Body Wash in Lilac & White Tea, $8.99 at Target
This bright blend is perfect for anyone looking for a subtler scent. Featuring notes of soft florals, fresh mandarin and crushed tea leaves, the light aroma lingers as you go about your day. Plus, the body wash relies on a cleanser derived from coconut oil leaving your skin naturally clean.
Aesop A Rose by Any Other Name Body Cleanser, $47 at Nordstrom
The floral, spicy and warm fragrance of this cleanser will get your day started on the right foot. Its low-foaming formulation relies on botanical extracts and rose petal oil to gently cleanse. You can even use it as a hand cleanser.
Hermes Eau de Mandarine Ambrée Cleansing Gel, $68 at Hermes
Hermes is the epitome of luxury, even when it comes to body washes. Its cleansing gel leaves skin soft, supple and scented with the brand’s beloved Eau de Mandarine Ambrée fragrance. The perfect warmer weather scent, it combines mandarin, passion fruit and amber for a cheerful, uplifting olfactory experience.
Ahava Mineral Botanic Velvet Cream Wash in Hibiscus & Fig, $24 at Ulta Beauty
Ahava’s velvety cream wash thoroughly cleanses skin without stripping moisture. It soothes with a roster of Dead Sea minerals, macadamia oil and organic plant extracts. And while hibiscus and fig give the wash a truly addictive aroma, they also moisturize and provide anti-inflammatory benefits, respectively.
