Phoebe Philo makes a comeback in September with eponymous brand

Phoebe Philo’s long-awaited comeback should finally become reality. The British designer has opened an Instagram account stating that her first collection will be unveiled and available on her website this September. In July 2021, she announced in a press release the launch of her eponymous brand, including ready-to-wear and accessories. Since then, she has not spoken out.

At the time, she indicated that she was the majority shareholder alongside the luxury group LVMH, which had a minority stake, and that she would control all stages of the creation and production of her brand. Once again, the designer did not give further details. Her studio is expected to be based in London, where she lives.

Since this announcement, Phoebe Philo has taken the time to structure her company. According to information gathered on LinkedIn, she has recruited managers, including Patrik Silén, who previously worked at Asos and McKinsey, as well as product, development and textile managers, and designers to develop ready-to-wear as well as bags and shoes.

In the five years since she left the creative direction of Celine, the LVMH house now headed by Hedi Slimane, the designer has remained very discreet, without losing any of her status. With a huge fan following, Phoebe Philo has become an iconic designer since successfully relaunching Celine and Chloé.

Born in 1973 to English parents, the designer grew up in London, where she quickly developed a passion for fashion. After graduating from the prestigious Central Saint Martins School, she moved to Paris, where she joined Stella McCartney, whom she had met at the school and who at the time was creative director of Chloé. She succeeded her in 2001, when her friend left to start her own label.

At Chloé, she was noticed for her talent and her ability to make the house evolve towards a more feminine image. But a few years later, she decided to leave the Richemont group label to return to London and look after her family.

She let three years go by before LVMH convinced her to return to Paris to take over the reins of Céline, where she soon established herself with a minimal and timeless style that was much appreciated by women. During her time at Céline, she also built a strong reputation for accessories, with her bags achieving unprecedented success.
