Rosehip Oil for Glowing Summer Skin

Coconut, tea tree, avocado, jojoba, olive, castor. There are lots of nourishing oils to pick from. You could say we’ve reached a saturation point. But there’s always room for complexion-enhancing oils. Like rosehip oil.

The oil isn’t a new skin care ingredient. While it hasn’t reached the trending levels of watermelon and pink clay, it’s worthy of attention. For clarity’s sake, rosehip oil and rose oil are not the same thing. New York City organic skin care expert and owner of Ethereal Aromatherapy and Skin Care Alita Terry explains that the former is extracted from the seeds (also called the “hips”) of a rose bush. (In contrast, rose oil is extracted from the petals.)

The composition makes it unique. “Rosehip seed oil possesses a unique nutrient profile, which includes vitamins A, C and E as well as lycopene and beta-carotene,” explains Suzanne LeRoux of One Love Organics. “These nutrients, in conjunction with its content of omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids, make rosehip oil an ideal ingredient to support all skin types. It helps brighten and balance skin.”

Terry adds that the oil has the ability to protect skin from photodamage and synthesize collagen production. With long-term use, it can help fade the appearance of sun damage. Plus, it’s one of the only oils rich in vitamins C and K, which makes it suitable for all skin types, even oily.

Rosehip oil can be purchased in its 100 percent pure state and found as an ingredient in makeup, hair, body and even skin care products. No matter which one you choose, all the products moisturize, protect and improve the appearance of skin. Here are the best rosehip oil products that will leave skin petal soft.
