Back in June, we launched Mesh to MetaHuman, the first feature in the new MetaHuman Plugin for Unreal Engine. With Mesh to MetaHuman, you can take your own custom facial mesh and convert it into a MetaHuman that’s fully rigged and ready to animate in Unreal Engine. You can even further refine your character in MetaHuman Creator.
But for many people, the holy grail has been to see themselves, or someone they know, as a MetaHuman. That requires either a scan or a sculpt of the person, something that typically takes specialist equipment or a great deal of talent.
Now, the Capturing Reality team has come up with a tutorial to show you how you can scan yourself or someone else with nothing more complicated than a camera that captures video—such as your smartphone—and then use RealityCapture to process the images into a textured mesh that you can use as your starting point for the Mesh to MetaHuman workflow in Unreal Engine.
